Baby Boomlet

According to this, "more American babies were born in 2006 than any year since 1961."

We must be contagious :)

Looks like a mixed bag of news, though. (As usual.)

I love this: white American women have more children than white European — even though many nations in Europe have more family-friendly government policies on parental leave and child care.

Or maybe, those European policies are actually less family friendly since the family doesn't have any of its own money left after the tax man stops by! I'll be charitable and just chalk the inability to consider alternate causalities up to MSNBC's cute leftward tilt.

I always get a kick out of the way the media likes to bandy about the contributions of the hispanics. While there are some gals that may have had (gasp) 4 or more children, the vast majority have 3 or fewer. It always makes me wonder what is going to happen when they figure out that 2nd generation hispanic girls (like many of my friends and relatives) have developed Sulvan worldviews just like their caucasian contemporaries. Same schools, same media messages - doesn't matter which language it's presented in - the theme doesn't change. The message is that the more kids you have, the worse off you will be. Inside of 10 years I think that the statistics will reflect it.

Nice how such virtuous aspects of American culture are the ones we're most in a hurry to pass on!

Perhaps I'm in a cynical, election-year mood, but it seems to me there are fewer virtuous aspects of American culture all the time...
Too bad the influence isn't the reverse in this case.

I'm really disappointed that we missed the boomlet by THREE LOUSY MONTHS. I want a recount and they better include 2007 is all I have to say.

How come they aren't thinking War Babies? Just curious.
