Cost/benefit analysis

The preschooler and the toddler have been upstairs together for 15 minutes now, and it’s been very quiet. Do I go and check on them, possibly ruining the longest stretch of peaceful independent-together play that they’ve had in quite awhile? (The other possibility, of course, is that checking on them will save me a lot of, er, aftermath, if they’re up to no good.)

Ah, the perennial questions of motherhood.

Almost 6 years and I still haven't learned. We had four separate episodes last week, involving lentils, dry oatmeal, black beans, and 5 lbs of rice--the last was while I was outside with the dog). And only after four incidences did I think to rubberband the pantry door.

Who knew pantries were such fun? At least the honey and peanut butter and flour was way up high.

I meant incidents, but there is a high incidence of such incidents.

I can empathize, Katy. After kid #3 made cereal angels on the kitchen floor, we installed a top lock on the pantry door.

:D

Top lock on pantry in effect here too. Sometimes I think it just inspires more creativity elsewhere. :P

We have a pantry lock too. :) It took til kid 4 to get there but none of my others have had as much fascination as taking every single costco size box of granola bars, goldfish, etc and dumping their entire contents on the floor.

I typically enjoy the remaining bit of quiet time, while bracing for the aftermath...
