More mysteries

Why is it that appearing in public with five children while pregnant is so much more embarrassing than appearing in public with six children while not pregnant?

Is it now? Good to know, because right now my waddling and pack of kids is quite the sideshow for most!

I think the awkward physical condition of pregnancy lends itself quite naturally to embarrassment. Think about it. You can't bend over, or walk normally, or walk quickly, or breathe, or... you get the idea.

because it's like appearing in public while committing a crime, at least it's a crime to the rest of the world that only has 1.8 kids

Funny you should mention that, because I considered that question quite often during my last pregnancy. I think it is because pregnancy represents some form of weakness, surrender, submission, and humility (stupidity) in the world's eyes. Not cool.

I think it is being more exhausted which makes us feel more exhausted. I am not sure anyone is paying MORE attention but we are more conscious and TIRED!!!! I am probably out of this club now and in the geyser mom club with two year old. No one has asked me yet if he was my grandson so that is a relief. Actually I evilly wish they would......

Pregnancy puts you in a state of weakness and humility. You look vulnerable, because you are vulnerable. You can't even control your own body. You just have to submit to whatever your body allows or doesn't allow. Being vulnerable is very bad in the eyes of this present culture of autonomy that surrounds us. You're supposed to be a strong proud in control winner. Not a weak humbled servant loser. But we hold this mystery dear: God gives grace to the humble. Men are very wise and kind to honor a woman who is in the pregnant state.
