Fantasy Baby

I have often fantasized about what all this would be like with an imaginary baby, the one some other mom always has, the kind that sleeps and doesn't cry and knows how to nurse from minute one. I have had babies who possessed each of these attributes singly, but never all together.

It happened. I got my Fantasy Baby. Dad and I realized one day that we had a two-month-old and somehow were not miserable. Wonderful wonderful wonderful baby.

It took us six to get here and a few of them have been doozies. Postpartum was still double plus uncool because I am still double plus uncool. I don't know if the Fantasy Baby is a species or a fluke, so I don't know if there's any encouragement here for anyone else. I just wanted to tell you--I got her. I got my Fantasy Baby. I feel like our whole family got a huge pass on this one. I feel like I won the lottery.

I am very happy for you. It must seem too good to be true. Enjoy.

I won the lottery with first and only child.

Your comments here make me heartily ashamed that I've ever complained about my kids at all, because they've each basically been Fantasy Babies (if I can modify that phrase with "basically" without completely undermining it). Baby #3, one month old, is fantastic. Maybe she and yours will be college roommates someday. SO glad you're blessed with (relative) ease this time!

You did win the lottery! If only my 2 month old didn't have gas issues.... :)
Perhaps you earned it after all the hard work you put in with #1-5. How's that for some works righteousness? :)

My second son is a fantasy baby. He was a perfect nurser from the first minute. He slept through the night the first day we brought him home as well as for about 70% of the nights in the first month and 90%+ thereafter. When he did awake at night, he nursed and immediately went back to a long sleep. He is still the sweetest person EVER! Man how I love that kid.
