Who shall stand?

I wonder how many of us are from the kind of families we imagine our children's future spouses must come from. Although I'm inclined to think I came from a pretty decent family, I'm sure some purists would consider it unacceptable. After all, anyone who grew up wrong regarding certain matters can't really be trusted, no matter what they say they think now. You can take the girl out of Sulva, but . . . ?

Furthermore, anyone who grew up right won't make Certain Mistakes, and Certain Mistakes are unforgiveable. Not for God of course (it's his job to forgive people), but for future parents of our grandchildren, who must be exactly as undamaged as we've imagined them.

Well, I'm Prussian, as you know, and thus the finest of stock. Never mind that gypsy horse thief that cropped up. Or that sprocket Frenchman. :D

Blood. It outs.

All that aside, I pray for those dear little babies who will one day have the misfortune of being in-lawed to me, whoever they are. I pray for them all the time. And I beg, for their sakes more than for my children's, that their holy angels watch over them so that they might not have anything too heartbreaking to confess upon the thresholds of their marriages.

It's so weird to be Prussian.

Since we have an arranged marriage already for our daughter, I do pray for them both. And can watch the little man as he grows up.

I am actually mostly serious about the arranged bit.

I'm German. Nearly full blooded. What does that say about me?

Mrs G, we've got plenty of arrangments in place too, but I have to say that as they get older and start having personalities the initial confidence comes into question.

Well, Melrose, are we talking Bavaria or Saxony?

I'm just thankful my son-in-law came from a relatively normal family--too normal and he surely would have eschewed us--with still-married parents, and is Lutheran. :) I've been praying for the people that my children would marry since they were small and am trusting that God will protect them and my children from the mistakes that they will surely make. Having made plenty myself, I know that God surely protected me from myself.

:D I'd be thrilled with relatively normal.

This post kind of makes me sad. Could just be my mood.

Huh, that is a very good question Rebekah. My dad did this full family history thing dating back about 20 generations and would totally know but I have no idea where he left his research. So, whichever is the good one ;D.

The Mama, I've just mean that I've come away from a few conversations (either as a participant or an auditor/reader) feeling like a mudblood in the Slytherin common room, and I thought it was weird since we weren't at Hogwarts.

Understood, and I've had similarly bewildering experiences. Mudbloods, Unite!
