Learn from the dugongs

I've got no interest in water birth, but what about a water pregnancy?

Light as a feather

Ancient, as far as the internet is concerned, but how about Koi Assisted Birth?

The koi at the Japanese gardens always remind me of Americans at a McDonald's counter at lunchtime, who have of late reminded me of a baby demanding access to my person, who has made me think often of the koi at the Japanese gardens (all those scaly mooming mouths . . .). So, you see, a koi-assisted birth makes ever so much sense. :D

Koi creep me out.

Swimming when PG is pretty great, as long as you can get beyond buying a maternity suit (cute in theory, but tricky in practice).

Can I just say that during transition (in water) I said to my midwife, "I look just like a manitee right now." She laughed. But I did.

I want the koi to guide my baby up to me.

Katy, I got a Lands End rash guard real cheap at the end of the season this year and wore it over my regular getup. Roomy/stretchy enough for acceptable coverage among forgiving people at the end of my second tri.

Mrs G, what are you doing being so lucid during transition?

"when's mom coming out of the bathtub?"

"next month. now go throw some of these oreos in there for her."

I couldn't help it. I like labor. Granted, I had great motivation--avoiding a second c-section.

Aren't manitees cute?

Well, what a coincidence. My 7yo learned about dugongs in his Australia class at homeschool co-op today. We asked him tonight to tell us what he had learned. His take-away from the class was that all dugongs have thick whiskers on their upper lips but only the males grow tusks. :-D

Mrs. Gregory, can you come do my labor for me then? (insert pathetic pleading smile) Women like you amaze me. I have a dear friend that has confessed to liking labor. To me that's like saying I would like to smash all my fingers and toes one by one with a hammer. I need some serious how not to be a wimp classes.

All your comments made me giggle, koi assisted birth creeps me out, and I would LOVE to spend the rest of this pregnancy in the water. Can I just get a portable upright bathtub and use something like a joystick to steer with? My 20mo loves water, so she can just join me for the duration with some floaties. Genius.

For my last two pregnancies, my mom lived in FL and had a pool. It was wonderful. I propped those floaty noodles under my arms and under my belly and floated the afternoons away on my tummy. Oh and I had bought a maternity suit for the pregnancy before those last two and wore it a lot with those three babies. (It is rough to have a mother living in FL whom you must visit - lol). I thought it very freeing - no worries about what I look like - because of course I'm fat - I'm growing a baby! So pregnant ladies - wear those swimsuits with pride! And go relax, floating in the pool or ocean. :-)
