A lesson for the ages

"We were reading one day, for delight, of Lancelot, how love constrained him. We were alone and without any suspicion."

Many times that reading made us lift our eyes, and took the color from our faces,

but only one point was that which overcame us . . . .

That day we read in it no farther."

"Love, that on gentle heart quickly lays hold, seized him for the fair person that was taken from me, and the mode still hurts me. Love, which absolves no loved one from loving, seized me for the pleasing of him so strongly that, as thou seest, it does not even now abandon me. Love brought us to one death.

Caina awaits him who quenched our life."

Since you "cannot be held responsible for poor reading comprehension on the part of visitors to this blog" - I am in no way holding you responsible for my complete lack of comprehension on this one.
(Maybe I just need more Vitamin A.)

Francesca and Paolo? Or a Shakespeare I've never read? My husband would say carrots belong in the 2nd circle of Hell.

I read it three times...very slowly...and suddenly I realized how beautiful it was!!! Now please, tell me what this is! This uncultured swine over here would like to do some reading! ;)

Katy, I did ponder the Romeo/Juliet potential, but eventually had to decide for Paolo and Francesca. I had those two interlocking carrots and, well, who wouldn't think of them? And then get really carried away? So for those who weren't made to read this somewhere along the line, that's Dante's Inferno, Canto V.

And then, there are those of us who were made to read this somewhere along the line and still remember nothing of it! ;) (Sorry, Mrs. Baskerville!)
