Mom is not smart

I'm not the only person who does this, right? Realizes that the thing I've been watching the kids do for hours is something I totally don't want them doing?

By all means! Take the kitchen stools outside and turn them into cauldrons for mud-based potions! Of course I'd like a taste every three minutes!

Hey - KIDS LOVE MUD! And once in a while you just gotta decide to be a fun mom for a change (I mean me - I'm sure you're always fun ;) and let them do something that's gonna cost you a whole lotta laundry and clean up later on.

Just to prove you're not the only one who does this:

You know, if they're not fighting about it, and they're cheerily entertaining themselves and each other, it's just so, so worth it. (Though this is sometimes difficult to explain to any sane adult--possibly including Dad--who happens by unexpectedly. Still worth it. :D) And chubby mud-smudged cheeks are so strangely endearing.

And Leah, that's one impressive post you've got over at your place. My boys would be totally inspired...which is why I won't share it with them ;)

Yes. Especially when you make rules about such things (not speaking to the mud, but say for example, playing with food or jumping off the coffee table) just the day before :)

So I was wrong to let her play in a mud puddle by the pond - for three hours - that day we had to wait for Daddy to finish a meeting & we only had one car?

I think kids & mud are ok. They clean up just fine & if it's not dangerous & keeps mom sane, well....

Outside, with a hose, part of the fun

But it's so muddy?

I had a stool with a gridded underside like that. I remember doing EVERYTHING with it, from stuff like this to making it a doll house. At least it can hose out. :)

We have three stools like that. (I'm short and my house was built for tall people.) The Toddler has claimed them as her own and carries them all around the house and into the backyard. (All the better to reach EVERYTHING with, my dear!) THankfully, she has not yet realized that there is even an underside. When that day comes, though, the stool DOES fit into the bottom rack of the dishwasher. :)
