Equipment

I'm always impressed by the "nursing" aisle at the store. Even breastfeeding can turn a profit for someone. My own largely unused collection of breastfeeding paraphernalia acquired by way of various fears, tragedies, and conventions is all the proof anyone needs that the profiteers are good at what they do. It also calls to mind my secret impious analogy of individual Communion cuppies to pumping. I mean, I guess you could do that, but why?

Anyway, this nursing doll thing amuses me in similar fashion. Like a little girl needs a special doll and clothing to figure out how to nurse her "baby." Geniuses, these marketers. My kids have only recently learned what a bottle is since they have gained a cousin who uses one, but no doll has ever gone hungry in our house.

Do you think that they'll translate the name Spanish>English before marketing this in the US?

Something about "Baby Glutton" just doesn't seem appealing.

"chup, chup, chup" indeed.

Toys that make noise similar to noises I have to endure all the time anyway = no go.

LOL!

In my nursing mother hiatus I have seen new things crop up. The most interesting to me? The little milk saver thingie that attaches to the nipple opposite the one baby is nursing on, to catch all of the extra milk. I could have used that...not that they would have drank it out of a bottle, but at least it would have kept baby's legs drier!

Whoa! Did ya'll catch that statement about "the idea of breastfeeding is too mature for young girls and MAY CAUSE EARLY PREGNANCY"

What ?!!!!

That's about the stupidest statement I've heard all day and I live with 3 toddlers.

That goes in the books with a comment I read on MSN.com this week that women who are "bumpaholics" (meaning women who keep cranking out kids) keep having babies out of insecurity and their need to feel validated.
Did anyone else see that one?

Oh, and Rebekah, your comment about "individual cupppies".... HILARIOUS ! I gotta remember that one.

But accurate, JenH! :D

DP, sometime I'll meet you in person and discuss this matter in more depth. ;)

Monique, I did see that. It was just so unbelievably stupid I don't feel like I've completely processed it yet. Thank goodness we have psychologists to tell us what's going on in our own idiotic insecure heads.

Oooh, that's classic. I'm going to have to pass that one along.

I don't see a similar uproar over bratz dolls or other "prosti-tot" accoutrements in the toy aisle that may be too mature, or age-innapropriate...

perhaps because any early pregnancies resulting from those culturally accepted playthings would be more likely to end in a trip to planned parenthood than a maternity ward?

Did I just type that? I'm shocked at myself. Yet, not hitting the delete button...

Beth: Prosti-tot!? :D Scandalous.

After BoyThree was born, the big brothers had a surge of interest in the (manly) dolls in the house and went about feeding them in the only way they knew how. They were rather crestfallen when I explained to them that only moms could do that. They got over it pretty quickly, since thumping (burping) the "babies" was more their style anyway.
