Doin' that thing you do

Doctor OB has a lot of fun telling a pregnant woman how much weight she's gained, then encouraging her to feel fine about it while yet telling her to cool it.

My doctor and I just had a little talk. Accordingly, I'm feeling rebellious, so I'm cooling it with Cool Whip. Bowls of it. That's right. And I'm not even hungry.

Cool Whip?!? Aagh. Why not just gnaw on a hunk of Velveeta?
;)

Repent! Get some pie or chocolate or lard underneath that Cool Whip - stat.

Sweetheart, you eat whatever you want, as much as you want. 'Tis your privilege and--dare I say--your responsibility. God gives pregnant women a wisdom of the body. You deserve your fluffamutters! Praying for you....

Hey, when did it start coming in that postmodern packaging?

I know this will make you disgusted, but with my 3rd pregnancy I had a terrible time putting ANY weight on. I was finally induced because the midwife was sure there was something wrong because I had only gained 10 lbs the entire pregnancy. I really did eat! I would have loved to have gained more. So, enjoy being pregnant and gaining weight!

Rebekah, When I read it in The Birth Book. :)

I didn't mean to borderline on heresy (what other way is there to say it?), but I see that I walked right in to that one!

Whip it. Whip it good.

You've earned it! :)

MM: You heavy whipping cream snob, you. :D

Rebekah: That packaging is pure brilliance. I hate hydrogenated confusion in a can, but find myself unable to resist those cute lids. ;)

Joy: Get that Birth Book behind me! Just the pictures reduced me to tears, so my husband threw my copy in the trash bin. He's a good man, that guy. :D

As for the rest of you: Thanks. I'll let my doctor know I have your permission to bulk up another 30 pounds before this whole thing goes down.

Ah. Mea culpa, Rebekah.

Gauntlets, you can blame Melisa A. for the mere mention of That Book.

By midway through my second pregnancy I had gained the full amount of my first and that lead to a panic attack followed by weeks of overly careful eating. My midwife finally talked sense into me and I happily gained another 20 pounds :D

I was back to pre-pregnancy weight by 8 weeks! Yay for breastfeeding!!

Joy, I was indeed referring to the cans. "Postmodern" is one of my favorite adjectives for overapplication.

Melanie, unless your baby gained 10+ pounds in eight weeks that's genetics and not breastfeeding on your side. ;)

Gauntlets - I gained a very lovely 45 pounds during my pregnancy. 52, if you count what I gained with the previous one. I have heavy whipping cream (with vanilla and sugar) to thank for it. And ice cream. And philly cheesesteaks. mmmmmmmmm. My Dr said not one word, which is part of why I love him so.

fwiw, I'm down 40 lbs, and still eating muchly the same (ie all the freaking time).

Let all mommas eat!

I feel I should make a confession...it doesn't matter what weight I begin a pregnancy...I deliver once I hit a certain weight..every time. Sometimes, I have gained 35 pounds sometimes only 10. I dare say how our bodies handle pregnancy is somewhat based on hereditary and metabolism BUT nursing helps so much!

I'm gonna have to find me some of those pomo containers--looks like they work well for mainlining purposes, should necessity strike :)
