The rich man's family

When I was pregnant with our second baby, a seminary professor (and father of four) congratulated us on having the "million dollar family," as we would now have a girl and a boy. By societal standards, we should have stopped at that point. We've laughed ever since about how we squandered that fortune.

Then the other night at a church event, a lady asked us if we knew what we were having. We told her it was a boy and she said, "Oh, two and two! That's the rich man's family!" So maybe we haven't ruined it all just yet. I wonder what three and three is? Four and four?

I'm always amazed at the things people come up with to say. When people learn that #3 is another boy, there's usually this moment where they're not sure if they should congratulate or console us. And then there was the woman who, upon hearing that another family had just completed their "million dollar family," turned to me, and said, "I bet you're jealous, huh?" Hard to know quite what to say to that (graciously, i mean).

Someday we should post highlights of the incredibly stupid, insensitive comments people have made to us or friends relating to this topic--I especially hate it when a non-CSPP friend has someone say something awful to her. It just makes people want to get out of the game that much more.

Well said. We are poor in possessions, true, but rich in the riches of God. I'm waiting for the carbon footprint discussion to lead to a tax on children for adding greenhouse gases. That will make them even more expensive.

The future is now--$5000(AU) per baby. Read all about it right here:
